Serving Somerville, MA
Straight answer first: we do not have a shop in Somerville. Every wheel, caliper and part we coat goes through our shop in Warwick, Rhode Island, typically about an hour or a bit more south of Somerville depending on how I-93 is moving.
The short answer
Somerville is one of the most densely packed cities in New England, and the wheels show it. Tight parallel parking on side streets, narrow lanes in Union Square and Davis Square, and years of winter salt leave a lot of curb rash and peeling factory finish behind.
Text us a photo of what you have, tell us the color you want, and we will give you a ballpark price before you plan the trip.
Most Somerville cars live on the street. Resident permit parking on streets around Spring Hill, Winter Hill, Ten Hills and Teele Square means squeezing into tight spots against high granite curbs, and the outer lip of the wheel is usually what pays for it.
Curb rash is more than cosmetic once it breaks through the clear coat. Moisture and salt get under the edge and the finish starts lifting. Our rim repair work smooths and fills that damage before the wheel is coated, so the new finish starts on a clean, even surface.
Between McGrath Highway, Route 28, Route 16 along the Mystic River and the years of Green Line extension and street work around Union Square and Gilman Square, Somerville drivers have dealt with plenty of steel plates, patched pavement and potholes.
Then winter adds salt and brine to all of it. Powder coating cures into a thick, hard layer that generally holds up better to salt and brake dust than typical spray paint, which is why a lot of Somerville drivers redo their wheels once the factory finish starts to bubble.
Somerville is full of older homes and triple-deckers with iron porch railings, fence sections and radiators that have been painted over too many times. Those can be sandblasted to bare metal and powder coated in our Warwick shop.
We also coat patio furniture, motorcycle parts and fabricated pieces for local businesses. Since the trip takes planning, text us photos and rough sizes first so we can tell you what to bring.
